Privacy
Compangon is a local-first desktop app: your music — scores, manuscripts, compositions — lives on your computer, and we never collect it on our own. When you ask for a composition, the relevant excerpt goes to the AI provider you connected with your own key, under that provider's terms; with a model on your own computer, it stays there. What reaches us is anonymous install and launch counts, an install record if you say yes to usage analytics or notation snippets, anonymous crash reports (only once you say yes — we ask the first time something goes wrong), short notation snippets when a composition goes wrong (only if you opt in), the feedback reports you send, and — if you create an account — your email plus any optional profile details you add, and the composition reports you choose to send, which carry the score and manuscript of the passage you report on and are deleted after 90 days. If you ask for product-update emails, your email address, app language and profile details go to our mailing list until you unsubscribe. Product analytics in the app are opt-in and stay off until you consent; this website counts visits without cookies and without recognising you. Everything we hold is stored in the EU, though some of the providers who run those services are based outside Europe and can reach it to keep things running — our privacy note explains how that's covered. You can export or delete your data anytime from Settings → Privacy & data. Questions: [email protected].
Terms
These terms are between you and Compangon UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Berlin — see the Imprint. They are written in plain language for the public beta; any change is posted on this page. The full terms are at compangon.com/legal/terms; what follows is a short version of them.
- Beta software. Compangon is in public beta. It is early software: it may change, it may contain bugs, it may be unavailable at times, and we may stop offering it. Keep your own backups of work that matters. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
- Your own model. Compangon works with an AI model key you provide, or with a model you run on your own computer. When you use a provider, its own terms govern that use, you pay it directly, and its prices and availability are its own. A model on your own computer needs no key, sends nothing to a provider, and comes with its own licence.
- Your music is yours. Anything you create with Compangon is yours. We claim no rights over it, take no licence in it, and place no restrictions on what you do with it. The one exception is a composition report you choose to send: we keep it for up to 90 days, and use it only to find and fix problems with how Compangon composes.
- AI-assisted output. Suggestions come from a language model — they can be imperfect or resemble existing music. You review and decide what to keep; please check anything before you publish or perform it. Whether AI-assisted music is protected by copyright is not settled the same way everywhere. When Compangon writes generated music into your score, it also adds one line to the score file's properties saying the score contains AI-generated material, as EU law requires. The line is stored in the file and travels with it when you save, export or share it. How to read the mark.
- Free during the beta. Compangon is free while in public beta — and during the beta we don't charge for model usage either; that's between you and your provider. If we add paid plans later, we'll tell you first.
- Fair use. Don't use Compangon for anything unlawful, or to infringe other people's rights. Don't try to break it, overload it, or work around the limits it sets — and don't sell access to it or pass it off as your own product.
- Other companies' products. Compangon connects to music software made by other companies — today that is MuseScore Studio. Those apps are separate products with their own terms. MuseScore is a trademark of MuseScore BVBA, part of Muse Group. Compangon is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Muse Group. The full wording is in section 13 of the terms.
- Changes to these terms. We will change these terms from time to time — because the product changes, or the law does. New terms apply from the day we post them; if a change meaningfully affects what you get or what you agree to, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect. You are never stuck with a version you don't want: stop using Compangon, or delete your account; during the beta nothing is owed either way.
